DECRYPTION – The outstanding debt has almost doubled since the arrival of Anne Hidalgo at the head of the municipality in 2014.
Of course, the trees do not grow to the sky, but the outstanding debt of the city of Paris keeps getting closer. Weakened by a year 2020 marked by the covid-19 epidemic, the city’s public accounts revealed, on January 1, 2021, a debt of 7.7 billion euros, an increase of 12.6% compared to the previous year. More worryingly, since the arrival of Anne Hidalgo at the head of the municipality in 2014, the outstanding debt has almost doubled. The city’s policy of pre-empting social housing, which makes it a long-term political objective, is particularly singled out.
As every year, the Ministry of the Economy has therefore published the accounts of local authorities. And as often since 2014, the balance sheet of the city of Paris is not reassuring, especially its level of debt.
