It has been known since Friday that Borna Sosa (23) has German citizenship and could play for Germany.
Even national team manager Oliver Bierhoff (53) said on BILD: “We know the boy and watch him. We believe that Borna Sosa has the potential to become a German international. In our assessment, of course, we look beyond the EM. “
Now Sosa is also talking about the national team himself. After the 2-1 win over Augsburg in Stuttgart, the left-back said: “I had contact with Oliver Bierhoff. We talked about the EM and my future. ”
When asked whether it is possible that he will play for Germany at the European Championship (June 11th – July 11th), he says: “Yes, there is a possibility.”
VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat (48) raves: “I really like having him on my team. As a Croatian and also as a German national coach, I would look at him. “
How does the left foot tick?
He has been playing at VfB Stuttgart since 2018. After two difficult years, he got off to a good start this season and feels the trust of coach Pellegrino Matarazzo (43).
Another reason for the explosion in performance: his parents have been living with him in Stuttgart for a little over a year – being close to his family is important to him for the feel-good atmosphere.
Sosa speaks seven languages (including: Croatian, English, German, Spanish, Italian) and gives interviews in German. After the naturalization test, Matarazzo says: “Now we only speak German with him because he can do it too.”
Besides his dog, he likes cars. He got personalized rims for his Mercedes G63 AMG (approx. 160,000 euros).
Sosa’s naturalization was made possible because his mother was born in Germany and his grandfather had run an insulation company in Ulm for 40 years.
“That’s why we used to spend a lot of our vacations in Ulm, visit the family and then always go on trips to Stuttgart,” said Borna Sosa once.
