Juri Watanabe – a 25-year-old office worker in Tokyo – won the crown of Miss Universe Japan, on the evening of September 22.
The beauty said after the contest night: “I am extremely happy and excited, thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this contest.” Juri will represent her home country at the Miss Universe World pageant in Israel at the end of the year. She aims to win the top spot.
Juri Watanabe was born in Tokyo, of two Japanese and Korean bloodlines. She is 1.73 meters tall, likes to arrange flowers, play the flute, and practice boxing to keep fit. Miss speaks fluent English and Chinese, has lived in the US, India and China for a while. When she was in 8th grade, she and her mother moved to America to access a Western education. From 2015 to 2017, she worked as an administrative assistant for a law office in Los Angeles. In 2018, she graduated from the University of California, with a bachelor’s degree in economics. Miss currently works in marketing in Tokyo.
The first beauty contest she participated in was Miss Asia USA 2016, winning the top place. In 2019, she entered the top 10 of the Miss World Japan pageant.
Miss Universe 2021 is the 70th time the contest is held. Born in 1952, up to now, Miss Universe is considered one of the most prestigious beauty contests in the world today. This year’s playground welcomes the return of many countries such as Guinea, Greece, Mongolia, Namibia, Nigeria, Sweden, Turkey. Runner-up Nguyen Huynh Kim Duyen will represent Vietnam to compete. Some countries such as Laos and Malaysia did not participate because of the complicated epidemic situation.
