Nürnberg-Düsseldorf 1-0 – backward header secures first club victory

With a curious hit, 1. FC Nürnberg achieved their first win of the season in their third game. New signing Christopher Schindler (came from Huddersfield on a free transfer) hit the back of his head for the decision (58th)!

Nuremberg started well. Asger Sörensen (6th / header after corner) and Johannes Geis with a free kick (9th) provided the first exclamation marks.

After that, Düsseldorf got stronger – especially in the person of Felix Klaus. Initially, the ex-Fürth (2006 to 2013) aimed just past the left after going it alone (17th). He tested Nuremberg goalkeeper Christian Mathenia with a long shot for only three minutes.

Shortly after half-time, the FCN goalkeeper looked less good in a fist defense, but was lucky that Düsseldorf striker Dawid Kownacki headed just wide (48th).

After Schindler’s stroke of genius, things got hectic! Düsseldorf-Ösi Christoph Klarer cleared Mats Möller Daehli on the sidelines – it came to packs. In addition to Klarer, Nuremberg’s assistant coach Frank Steinmetz also saw the yellow card.

The club continued to hold out against it and brought the first win of the season over time.

Next week it will continue for Nuremberg on Sunday in Ingolstadt. Fortuna welcomes Holstein Kiel on Friday.
