Mesut Özil: Suspended by Fenerbahçe – These words were his undoing

The fairy tale is over again!

After Mesut Özil (33) was greeted with great cheering in Istanbul at the beginning of last year, the former international appears to have played his last game for Fenerbahçe on Sunday.

The 2014 world champion was suspended along with teammate Ozan Tufan, 27, after the two complained about their coach Ismail Kartal, 60.

Özil was substituted after just one half in the 2-1 draw against Konyaspor on Sunday, although he was on the pitch from the start as captain. Then his collar should have burst. According to the Turkish agency “DHA”, Özil said to his coach: “I could have stayed longer on the pitch. I try to contribute to this team.”

According to BILD information, Özil is said to have also thrown his shoes on the floor in the cabin and cursed in German towards Kartal.

The coach is said to have been dissatisfied with Özil’s condition for a long time, as the ex-Arsenal and Real Madrid star was repeatedly absent with injuries. Özil’s recent complaints are said to have been the last straw.

Together with Tufan, Özil appeared according to “Hürriyet” for a meeting with the management of the club and Kartal. After the two players reiterated their allegations, Fenerbahçe officials then suspended the dissatisfied duo.
