Telecom Subscribers in India: The number of telecom subscribers in the country has come down to 116.60 crore in February this year. During this period, there has been a decline in the number of mobile customers of companies like Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea. This information has been given in the data released on Tuesday by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Reduced customers of BSNL and MTNL
According to the data, Bharti Airtel was the only company in the mobile segment, whose number of connections increased. While the fixed line subscriber base continued to grow, the market share of private telecom operators has increased in this segment while the public sector companies – BSNL and MTNL have lost their customers.

According to the TRAI report, “The number of telephone subscribers in India has declined from 116.94 million at the end of January, 2022 to 116.60 million at the end of February, 2022. It has declined by 0.29 per cent.
Reliance’s customers decreased for the second consecutive month in February
Let us tell you that there was a decline in the number of mobile subscribers in telecom circles across the country except Uttar Pradesh East, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. February was the third consecutive month when Reliance Jio lost its mobile subscribers. The number of mobile subscribers of the company decreased by 36.6 lakhs to 40.27 crores.
Bharti Airtel adds 5.91 lakh new customers
Vodafone Idea (VI) mobile subscribers also declined. It lost 15.32 lakh mobile subscribers, while BSNL and MTNL lost 1.11 lakh and 5,097 connections respectively. Bharti Airtel added 15.91 lakh new customers in February.
Know how was the number of wireline subscribers?
According to the TRAI report, “The number of wireline subscribers has increased from 2.42 crore at the end of January, 2022 to 24.50 million at the end of February, 2022. In addition, there was a net increase of 3.1 lakhs in the wireline subscriber base with a monthly growth rate of 1.27 per cent.
Reliance added customers
Reliance Jio has added the highest number of 2.44 lakh new customers in the wireline segment. After this, Bharti Airtel added 91,243 subscribers, then Vodafone Idea 24,948, Quadrant 18,622 and lastly Tata Teleservices added 3,772 subscribers.
MTNL’s 49.5 percent stake
BSNL and MTNL jointly hold 49.5 per cent stake in this segment. These companies lost 49,074 and 21,900 fixed line customers respectively. The number of broadband subscribers in the country declined marginally to 78.33 million in February from 78.34 million in January.
