Health employs at least 2.5 million people in France



Often seen as a cost, health is also and above all a major contributor to the French economy. Exactly the third, after manufacturing industry and trade, reveals a study by the Asterès firm, headed by economist Nicolas Bouzou. Until now, there were no estimates taking into account all the actors, certain professions being traditionally excluded from the accounts. At the request of the “French Care” professional association, Asterès got down to the task.

It consisted in calculating the real economic weight of health (human only) when all the direct providers, public or private, including the financiers of the healthcare system, the regulatory administration, training or the professions are included. unregulated (psychotherapists, osteopaths, etc.) and specific providers. Excluded are those providing, for example, hospitals but also schools, and all indirect activities.
