Rotterdam (Netherlands) – When Feyenoord Rotterdam meets their rival from Amsterdam, the mood between the fan camps is boiling anyway.
But this time the spectator stands at the hate derby in the De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam remained empty. Because of the current Corona lockdown, the game between Feyenoord and Ajax took place on Sunday in front of an empty backdrop.
But there was a lot going on in front of the stadium!
Up to 150 rampaging fans set off smoke bombs and Bengalos, and bottles were thrown at police officers. The police reacted to the violent supporters with water cannons.
According to the Dutch news agency ANP, officials arrested 64 angry people. Feyenoord fans were aiming for the opponent’s team bus, allegedly attacking him. What they didn’t know: There were no players on the bus. A trick to bring the Ajax team to the stadium in the other vehicle without damage.
The ghost game won Ajax, the guests won confidently with 2-0 goals. In the table of the Dutch honor division, Amsterdam is in second place – ahead of the competitors from Rotterdam.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte imposed a new lockdown on Saturday evening. All non-essential shops, restaurants and bars, cinemas, museums and theaters will be closed until January 14th. The schools should remain closed at least until January 9th.
