For lack of vehicles, the major rental companies are driving up the price of cars

Very weakened by the health crisis, the major players in the sector have not renewed their stocks.

Vacationers should prepare for it. If they want to rent a car this summer in France, they will have to break the bank. According to price comparison Carigami, prices have soared. Having a vehicle for a week currently costs 352 euros on average, an increase of 35% compared to the summer of 2019, which was not yet subject to the yoke of the health crisis.

And, for the most popular seaside destinations, inflation is even more spectacular: + 81% in Biarritz, or 461 euros for seven days, + 74% in Nice (416 euros), + 87% in Figari (370 euros) … In some towns in Corsica, we are even running out of stock. “The problem arises most acutely on the Isle of Beauty because visiting this territory requires having a car, explains Pierre Feisthauer, responsible for the development of Carigami in France. And, in the summer, ferry companies only load passenger vehicles, not rental companies.
