FC Bayern: Hasan Salihamidzic on Kathleen Krüger and change breakdown

It was one of the oddities of that matchday and all season.

Bayern Munich briefly played with twelve men in the 4-1 win at SC Freiburg. Because of a mistake in the 86th minute.

Right in the middle: Bayern’s team manager Kathleen Krüger (36). She had accidentally displayed the wrong number (29 instead of 11) on the change board. That’s why Kingsley Coman (formerly wore 29, now 11) stayed on the pitch when he was actually substituted – while substitute Marcel Sabitzer already ran onto the pitch, so that the record champions had twelve players on the pitch for around 20 seconds.

This initially went unnoticed by the team of referees. Although Krüger was the trigger for the change chaos, the 4th official should have counted again before he let Sabitzer onto the pitch and the game continued.

Now Bayern’s sports director Hasan Salihamidzic (45) comments on Krüger. He told the “Münchner Merkur”: “What happened happened as a result of several unfortunate circumstances. As for Kathleen Krüger, we are all glad that she has been our team manager for years.”

Salihamidzic protects Krüger. But whether the sports club will still lodge a protest with the DFB sports court is still open. They have until Monday to do that.
