EuroCup: Hamburg Towers after 92:86 against Breslau in the round of 16

“Luuuka’s Meisner!”

The Towers fans celebrated the hero of the evening with chants. The 26-year-old excelled in the EuroCup against Breslau with 23 points and 13 rebounds – and thus secured the 92:86 (51:33) against the Poles.

And not only that!

With the victory, Hamburg qualified for the play-off round of 16 in the first year! (Unless Russia’s Krasnodar team is allowed to return to the competition in a total surprise.)

“Congratulations to my players,” said coach Pedro Calles (38) rather soberly after the game. “But as a coach, I don’t focus so much on the play-offs as on the development of the team.”

Defensive worker Zach Brown (26) was all the happier after the big fight: “It means a lot to me. It’s a milestone in my career. When you see where I started four years ago.” In the French second division.

Points supplier Jaylon Brown (27/ill) was missing from the Towers. Top scorer Caleb Homesley (25) was noticeably stricken.

Nevertheless, the Towers started with a lot of energy, worked out more rebounds and hit more “three-pointers” in front of 908 fans. At the beginning of the third quarter they were leading by 21 points (54:33).

Nevertheless, it was close. The rooks faltered – but found a way to win this time. With a record-breaking 49 (!) three-point throws!

Meisner, who recently shone again and again: “We can learn something from it. That we play our game to the end and don’t fall apart, as has happened in many other games.”

On Saturday we continue against Ludwigsburg in the Bundesliga (6 p.m., Magenta Sport). Thanks to a special permit, 3,400 fans (2G+, FFP2 masks) are allowed into the arena in the Inselpark for the first time in two years.
