EM 2021: Italy ice cold to the EM title – 911! England! Nothing again!

Two good teams, a worthy final – and in the end a well-deserved winner.

3-2 win on penalties against England.

The final thriller: Italy advance through Berardi, England captain Kane equalizes. Pickford holds Belotti’s 911. Maguire does it. Bonucci too. Rashford to the post – 2-2. Everything is open again. Bernardeschi sure. Donnarumma parries the Sancho 911. But also Pickford’s from Jorginho. Saka doesn’t do it against Donnarumma.

Italy is celebrating its second European title after 1968.

Coach Roberto Mancini (56) with tears of joy in his eyes: “The boys were wonderful!”

The final is not an offensive fireworks display, but tactically and football-wise it is of the highest level.

It bangs right at the beginning!

After a corner from the Italians, England countered Kane, who once again shines as a playmaker. The center forward takes Trippier with him on the right, whose flank Luke Shaw drops into the short corner (2nd).

England leads after 116 seconds, the fastest goal in a European Championship final!

In the stands, Tom Cruise and David Beckham give each other the cheering fist, Prince William is also there with Duchess Kate and son George.

Gareth Southgate, 50, also scored the goal. England’s coach is switching to a three-man chain like against Germany, bringing Trippier and Shaw into an offensive position.

Italy shocked, hardly comes through against England’s strong defense (one tournament goal). Also defensively, Southgate’s move with the triple chain goes on for a long time.

But: His counterpart Roberto Mancini (56) reacts, changes after the initial phase, Italy is getting a better grip on the Three Lions.

Offensive, however, Immobile is a total failure, only Chiesa noticeable for a long time. The Juventus striker is dangerous after two solo attempts (35./62.).

But England just want to beat the early goal – and will be punished. After a corner, Pickford steers a Verratti header to the post, Bonucci pokes the net (67th).

England play anxious after the break. Annoying: After his fall in the semifinals against Denmark, Sterling goes to the ground much too easily in a duel with Chiellini, but referee Kuipers rightly does not give a penalty (48th).

The mood in the stands is not as exuberant as in the semi-finals or in the round of 16 against Germany (2-0). Despite the early tour, the atmosphere is tense.

There are well over 65,000 spectators at Wembley, and an estimated 75,000 fans have made it into the stadium.

In the end, most of them grieve.
