Ice hockey national player Leon Draisaitl (25) scored three goals in the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 against the Ottawa Senators – he received great recognition, especially for his second goal!
“This is a shot that few people in the world can get – and he is one of them,” said NHL top scorer and teammate Connor McDavid (24) about the goal where Draisaitl hit the puck from an almost impossible acute angle and with the Ice skates already well behind the line in the net.
“I have brought myself into a position from which I can perhaps take the goalkeeper by surprise and fire the shot quickly in order to have a chance,” said Draisaitl.
On the US broadcaster NBCSN, the commentators could hardly believe the shot and the goal on Wednesday even after several repetitions. “Most would not even try that shot,” said trainer Dave Tippett.
Draisaitl not only got a hat trick in his eighth win in the eighth duel of the season with the Senators, he even played McDavid’s 3-2. In other words: four scorer points for the German ice hockey star.
The hat trick was the fifth of his NHL career and the second this season. Draisaitl now has 61 scorers in 40 games (22 goals, 39 assists). This puts him in second place in the entire league – behind team-mate McDavid (68 points).
In the last five weeks with main round games, the Oilers, in which national player Dominik Kahun (25) also plays, are second in the table in the Canada division. “I think we can still take a few steps up. I think we’re on the right track, we’re on the right track, but that we can simply play better as a team, ”said Draisaitl. “It’s going to be a fun final phase, a good final phase of the regular season and then possibly also good playoffs.”
