Darmstadt beats in 1860: Hiller ends the lion’s cup curse

What a cup fight!

Fought extra long, won in the end on penalties and in the 2nd round.

The lions have finally banned the DFB Cup curse!

6: 5 victory on penalties against second division SV Darmstadt 98, after 90 and 120 minutes it was 1: 1. For the first time after three first-round bankruptcies in a row, the lions are through!

From the front: “Play confidently and boldly,” demanded coach Michael Köllner (52). His team promptly followed the request. Captain Sascha Mölders (36) and Co make steam in front of 4158 loud spectators right from the start, Stefan Lex gives away the first big chance after just 5 minutes. Verh (l) ext again! Since the 26.2. the offensive player waits for a hit.

But even the Darmstadt team, who are still pointless and goalless in the league, are getting better and better into the game thanks to Luca Pfeiffer’s crossbar hit (22nd) and long-range shot (30th).

In passage 2, too, it is the lions who crank it up. Within 5 minutes Mölders, Biankadi and Bär score four goals – but Lilien keeper Marcel Schschuhe is always there.

Then it is Phillipp Steinhart (29) who redeems the Löwen fans with his 1-0 goal (75th).

But the jubilation only lasts for a short time. Luca Pfeiffer (80) makes the 1: 1 out of nothing.

Renewal!

The tension rises and the lions are close to victory again: Neudecker only misses the goal by centimeters (111th). Then, on the other side, Keeper Hiller becomes a hero. In 1860 he saved with a super save at Pfeiffer’s header from 6 meters into the penalty shoot-out.

And Hiller has better nerves there too! He holds the first 911 from Patric Pfeiffer, after that all the lions meet – 1860 is in the second round of the cup!

“We’re just happy. It’s such a great feeling. An evening where you have to party. I just want a cold beer now, ”says Hiller – the 911 killer!

This is how the lions played: Hiller 1; Deichmann 3, Lang 3, Salger 2, Steinhart 2; Minor 3 (89th Neudecker); Dressel 3, Biankadi 3, Lex 3 (from 78th perennial); Bear 3 (110th Goden), Mölders 3 (89th Tallig)
