Ralf Rangnick (63) moves to Austria after the season from Manchester United. He will be the new Ösi national coach, succeeding compatriot Franco Foda (56), who quit his job after missing out on qualifying for the World Cup.
What does that have to do with Gladbach? A lot – because Borussia coach Adi Hütter (52) almost became national coach in his home country.
Background: The Ösi association wanted Hütter and had already knocked on his door. The Gladbach coach confirms: “I’m pleased that ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel also spoke to me, I also communicated that with the club.”
Hütter canceled immediately!
His explanation: “It is an absolute honor for me that the association in my own country has dealt with me. I’m also pleased to be part of the group of candidates. But that wasn’t an issue for me. And I think the solution with Ralf Rangnick is very good.”
Hütter does not see his Gladbach mission as over yet!
The Gladbach coach: “But I wasn’t ready now. First of all, I have a contract in Gladbach. I feel very comfortable at Borussia, I want to stay in club football. And I’m not at all satisfied with my first season in Gladbach, I don’t need to emphasize that.”
