Gladbach strikes on the transfer market!
After national player Matthias Ginter (27) announced his free transfer in the summer two weeks ago, his successor has been determined. Marvin Friedrich (26) moves from Union Berlin to Borussia and signs a contract until 2026.
At the end of March last year, BILD reported on Friedrich as a possible Ginter successor. Although the central defender is free of charge in the summer, he is already coming for around 2.5 million euros. Hoffenheim was also at Union’s record first division player (78 appearances). Therefore, Gladbach manager Max Eberl (48) had to act as quickly as possible and sign him early.
Eberl: “We are very happy that we managed to get him. Marvin has developed into one of the best German defenders in the league. “
Friedrich has been in Gladbach since today, completed the medical check directly after his arrival – after which he was officially presented. Tomorrow the newcomer should train with the team. Friedrich already has an option for the game against Leverkusen on Saturday (6.30 p.m. / Sky).
Since Ginter doesn’t want to leave Borussia until the summer, coach Adi Hütter (51) has a luxury problem in the second half of the season: With the DFB star, Friedrich, Nico Elvedi (25) and Jordan Beyer (21) now have four central defenders . Ramy Bensebaini (26) and Tony Jantschke (31) can also play on the position.
