Borussia Mönchengladbach against Bayern: Fritz whistles the opening cracker

Finally the Bundesliga again!

After the – from a German point of view – disappointing EM, the league starts again on Friday.

The opening hit Gladbach against Bavaria (8.30 p.m. / Sat.1 and DAZN) is a real classic and delicacy at the start of the season.

Where both clubs stand is largely unclear: Borussia struggled to a narrow and flattering 1-0 victory in the DFB Cup against third division Kaiserslautern. The cup game of the record champions against Bremer SV was postponed to August 25 because of some corona cases at the Hanseatic League. And in the test matches of the preparation, the record champions had not exactly covered themselves with fame …

So on Friday the first meeting of two heavyweights. BILD learned exclusively: Marco Fritz (43) will lead the game!

With this, the DFB nominated a confident, experienced referee, who usually brings games to the stage in an unspectacular manner. FIFA referee Fritz was named German “Referee of the Year” of the year last season, and most recently worked as a video assistant at the European Championships.

The choice of the referee for the first game of the season is always particularly important: This is where scent marks are set, new rules are implemented and the guard rails are set for the entire year, which the other referees in the Bundesliga use as a guide.

Zwayer and Stieler were sorted out

Germany’s number 1, Dr. Felix Brych (46) and Deniz Aytekin (43), who is also very respected, could not be nominated for the opening hit because they come from Bavaria and therefore should not whistle Munich.

Felix Zwayer (40) and Tobias Stieler (40) are officially above Fritz in the FIFA ranking – but both were not nominated for the European Championship by UEFA for reasons of performance and should lick their wounds first.
