Will BVB get rid of two more flops shortly before the end of the transfer?
Goalkeeper Roman Bürki (31) and Borussia Dortmund appear to be going their separate ways during this transfer period.
As various media reports, the Turkish top club Galatasaray Istanbul is about to sign the 31-year-old former goalkeeper from Borussia Dortmund. This coincides with information from BILD.
Bürki is about to take off in winter!
The goalkeeper, who is under contract in Dortmund until 2023, should initially be loaned out until the end of the season. All parties are already in agreement – it shouldn’t be long until the official implementation.
Bürki is completely outside of BVB this season. He switched from Freiburg to Borussia Dortmund in 2015 for around 3.5 million euros. There he replaced the long-time goalkeeper and Dortmund legend Roman Weidenfeller (41) and has played 232 competitive games in black and yellow since then. However, because he kept making mistakes, he never enjoyed the full trust of supporters and club officials.
Nevertheless, in the summer of 2020, after good performances as a regular goalkeeper, the contract was extended to 2023 – including a salary increase. Last season he then lost his regular place to Marwin Hitz (34), before the club signed a new number one in Gregor Kobel (24) in the summer of 2021.
Since then, Bürki has only been number three at BVB behind his two compatriots. Since he is one of the top earners in the black and yellow with an estimated annual salary of five million euros, the club was desperately looking for a buyer last summer. Unsuccessful.
Now a change could finally be made from Dortmund’s point of view. At Galatasaray, which is in a relegation battle in the Turkish league, long-time number one Fernando Muslera (35) has been out since December with a knee injury. According to Turkish media, the Uruguayan probably has no future at Gala.
Fenerbahçe want BVB star Schulz
Bürki is not the only BVB star who could change in winter. Fenerbahçe Istanbul are said to be very interested in Nico Schulz (28).
The left-back has made a total of 17 appearances for BVB this season. He too has not been able to meet expectations since moving from Hoffenheim (2019). At Fenehrbaçe, Schulz would meet many old acquaintances from the Bundesliga. Playing there include: Mesut Özil (33), Max Meyer (26), Luiz Gustavo (34) and a few other kickers who have already played in Germany.
