Besikatas wins Istanbul derby against Galatasaray

In the last season of the Turkish Süper Lig, the tension lasted until the last seconds. Because: Only one goal difference was decisive on the last day of the game – and Besiktas laughed as champions in the end.

At the Istanbul derby on Monday it was no less exciting: Besiktas dominated as hosts for a good half hour. It played a role: Galatasaray visited Moscow against Lokomotiv in the Europa League on Thursday evening and won 0-1. So Gala had less time to the derby than Besiktas.

But: In the 35th minute, the newcomer Alexandru Cicaldau (24) scored the gala goal. In front of the penalty area he pulls after a presentation by Aktürkoglu (23), the dropkick lands in the far corner, untenable for goalkeeper Destanoglu (20). For the first time, Besiktas conceded their first goal in a league game this season at home.

In the 80th minute, the ex-Leverkusen central defender Domagoj Vida (32) blocked a shot on goal in the penalty area by hand. The referee Firat Aydinus, who celebrated his 48th birthday on the evening of the game, pointed to the penalty spot. The striker Mostafa Mohammad (23), who had been substituted three minutes earlier, missed the penalty. Destanoglu jumps to the right and clears.

Before the derby, both Istanbul teams had 17 points. Besiktas now lands in 3rd place with 20 points. Galatasaray remains in 8th place.
