Fall drama the day before Christmas Eve! Track cycling world champion Amy Pieters (30) fell in the training camp of the Dutch national team after a collision in Calpe, Spain, and sustained serious injuries.
The world-class rider immediately underwent emergency surgery in a hospital in Alicante to relieve the overpressure in her head caused by the fall. This was announced by her team “SD Worx” on Christmas Eve. Pieters remains in an artificial coma over the Christmas period.
“We are currently unable to provide any further information about the accident and ask everyone to respect the privacy of those involved,” said the Dutch Cycling Association. “Our thoughts are with Amy and her loved ones right now.”
Amy Pieters became world champion in two-man team driving (Madison) in 2019, 2020 and 2021 together with Kirsten Wild.
