A shop, a guest room, a museum… the perfumer Fragonard sets down his suitcases in Arles


A few days before the first confinement, in March 2020, the Obs had met Agnès Costa, the president of Fragonard, in its Parisian offices on rue Scribe. In the midst of fabrics, fruity fragrances and other sketches of the house’s future collections, this optimist in her fifties spoke at length about a project that was close to her heart: the opening in Arles of a new boutique on the ground floor of a old building in rue du Palais, with six guest rooms upstairs, including two suites “To feel at home there”.

We suspected, given the health crisis that we are still going through, that this project was going to take a little delay. But finally, in the heart of summer, the Fragonard house inaugurated at 7-9 rue du Palais its pretty guest house * above the store. The whole was designed by the Be-Pole studio and the architect Renzo Wieder. But for decoration, we find the touch of Agnès Costa. Keen on antiques, the president scooped up Arles cabinets, furniture and old engravings, but also bedspreads printed with wooden planks or handcrafted suspensions. An authentic decor that fits well with the spirit of this Grasse SME eyed by many investors.
