Of the total 6.2 crore income tax returns submitted for the assessment year 2021-22, 48 per cent ITR-1 (2.97 crore), nine per cent ITR-2 (56 lakh), 13 per cent ITR-3 (83 lakh) and 27 lakh ITR-4 (1.66 crores), ITR-5 (11.3 lakhs), ITR-6 (5.2 lakhs) and ITR-7 (1.41 lakhs crores).
15 February for submission of audit report
In January, the government had extended the last date for submission of income tax returns in the case of companies till March 15 for the financial year 2021-22. At the same time, the deadline for submission of tax audit report and ‘Transfer Pricing Audit Report’ for 2020-21 is February 15.
The Income Tax Department said that between April 1, 2021 and February 7, 2022, it has issued refunds of more than Rs 1.67 lakh crore to 1.87 crore taxpayers. The tax department said that refunds worth Rs 59,949 crore have been issued in 1,85,65,723 cases, while corporate tax refunds of Rs 1,07,099 crore have been issued in 2,28,100 cases. At the same time, refunds have been issued in 1.48 crore cases worth Rs 28,704.38 crore for the assessment year 2021-22.
