The next Mainz hero has extended!
After midfield talent Leandro Barreiro (21), Sturm-Wühler Karim Onisiwo (29) also signed a new contract until 2024.
The Ösi would have been free of transfer next summer and could quickly become the focus of other clubs as a European Championship participant. Mainz board member Christian Heidel and his sports director Martin Schmidt put a stop to this.
In the USA!
New job for Khedira
After the career is before the career. World champion Sami Khedira has a new task ahead of him this summer – it will take him to the USA.
Schmidt: “With us there was no doubt that we want to keep Karim close to us for a longer period of time.”
Coach Bo Svensson appreciates Onisiwo for his fighting power and running strength, and rightly praises him: “He often deals with the defensive of the opponent alone.”
Onisiwo came from Mattersburg at the beginning of 2016 for 1.5 million euros, commuting for a long time between the bank and the starting eleven. The son of an Austrian and a Nigerian would be a candidate for top clubs with more accuracy. This season he managed at least four goals and three assists in 31 appearances. He made a total of 132 Bundesliga games (17 goals) for the zero five.
Onisiwo himself explains his contract extension as follows: “Mainz has become my sporting home. Here they give me the feeling that they are building on me and want to continue building me up. “
